...this wonderfully strange baby carriage!
I am a Victorian era wicker stroller, from the golden age of carriages in1880' and 1890'. We origin from the time of the Civil War. Our trade was going slow at the begining but the Victorian people started to growing fond of us in the 1870'. Several manufacturers that were already producing
a diverse line of children's hand-woven, wicker products —
bedsteads, cradles, chairs, bassinets and cribs — added
carriages, recognizing the carriage evolution. Separate trade catalogues for carriages started to print. The upper-class Victorian was smitten by the ornate scrollwork and the
hand-crafted, individual workmanship. They appreciated the
abundant choices in styles, woods and upholstering. Strolling in the fresh air was considered a joy and necessary for good health and motherhood. One's passion for nature was seen everywhere and eagerly
brought indoors. Delicate flowers and leaves were collected to be
pressed in books for keepsakes. In the parlor, collected shells were displayed and often crafted into mementos. This obsessive passion for nature and the outdoors visibly enhanced the quest for carriages. Wicker was both durable and lightweight.

* Kent built a shell shaped basket on wheels that the children could sit in; it was pulled by a goat or small pony and decorated with a snake design

break; after she bought them, anybody who was anybody had a

An alter ego is a "second self", a distinction from a person's normal personality. But let's take it a step further, let's focus beyond a personal state and move it to the level of everyday objects. I will try and find a different, special and interesting subject of any kind, be that in person or matter, then shortly describe it with some text and a few pictures. An interesting way of learning a thing or two about everything beautiful that surrounds us!
